London based charity Hestiais pleased to
announce the beginning of a UK wide campaign to raise awareness and bring an
end to domestic violence and sexual assault.
The campaign known as ‘UK SAYS NO
MORE’ will build on the broad impact of the NO MORE awareness campaign to end
domestic violence and sexual assault in the United States.
One in four women will be a victim of domestic
violence or sexual assault within their lifetime. This statistic accounts for
8% of all recorded crime within the United Kingdom. In addition 950,000 children across the UK are
also affected by domestic abuse each year. In a recent Hestia survey, 79% of
women reported leaving their partner because they feared for the safety of
their children. These figures are not stark which makes it ever more important
for campaigns such as UK SAYS NO MORE to share the message that together we can
end domestic abuse and sexual assault.
“Hestia
is proud to launch UK SAYS NO MORE and to partner with NO MORE in the United
States. We look forward to building on their successes”, said Patrick Ryan, CEO at Hestia. “Each week two women in the
UK are killed by a partner and there are 11 rapes every hour. Hestia is the
largest provider of domestic abuse refuges in London and enables over 5000
victims each year to leave abusive relationships, to stay safe and build new futures.
At Hestia, we aim to empower people and change lives. Through Campaigns such as
UK SAYS NO MORE we can make this positive difference.
“We
are extremely pleased to be working with Hestia to bring the NO MORE campaign
to the UK. We look forward to seeing UK SAYS NO MORE spread awareness and build
engagement as we have in the United States” said NO MORE Director, Virginia
Witt.

An estimated 13% of the U.S. population is Deaf or hard of hearing, yet support systems for Deaf survivors are sorely lacking. NO MORE is excited to present our latest blog piece
written by Morgane and Ryan, student activists from Gallaudet
University. NO MORE is proud to use our blog to give a voice to victims
and survivors from all communities. Please share this story and help us
activate your communities to end domestic violence and sexual assault.
With NO MORE Week in the rearview mirror (and what a wonderful week it was!), the team at NO MORE is already looking forward to April. Warmer weather is nice, but Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) is the main event. Let’s get everyone excited about a concentrated month of activism around such a critical issue.
The unifying NO MORE symbol represents zero – as in zero incidences of domestic violence and sexual assault. How do we get there? Unify all people, communities, and organizations around ending the stigma, shame and silence around domestic violence and sexual assault.
It’s finally here! We’re kicking off #NOMOREweek with a Law & Order: Special Victims Unit #NOMOREexcuses marathon at noon TODAY with USA Network and the Joyful Heart Foundation! Are you tuning in?
